After the success of Team International Service in last year’s York 10k, we’re getting our running shoes back on for a repeat performance this August!  Last year, we raised over £1500 for our life-changing work overseas, and we’ve put it to amazing use supporting marginalised communities all over the world.  A massive thank you goes out to all those who made that possible.

Founded in 1953 when the first 11 volunteers went to give practical assistance after the devastating floods in Holland, International Service has, since then, sent 1000s of volunteers and development workers to every corner of the globe.  Today, our programs include helping blind people to set up businesses in Bolivia, improving literacy levels for women in Burkina Faso, and our work in Brazil has contributed to a 51% decrease in the incidence of AIDS; all supported from our base in York.

It was a fantastic day and staff, volunteers and supporters alike all walked, jogged or ran over the finish line before joining us for a team picnic.  We even had second place in the wheelchair race!

We would love you to be a part of Team International Service this year on Sunday, August 3rd. Registration costs £26 and you will receive a free International Service t-shirt or vest top, lots of cheering and support on the day, fundraising support and a pub meal at our celebration afterwards.

Every penny of the sponsorship money you raise will go to projects such as our Inclusive Sports programme in West Africa, which uses sport as a way to improve the situation of people living with disabiltiies. Whether you run, walk or take part in a wheelchair, your contribution will help us support local projects to make a positive, lasting change in their communities.

For more information or to register to take part, please contact Caitlin Green at cgreen@internationalservice.org.uk or on 01904 647799.
