Innovation in action

Last year, our CEO Jo Baker attended a challenging and inspiring business programme organised by BOND, designed to kickstart international development NGO leaders on a journey of innovation with their charities.

Just over one year on, Jo talks about her experience of implementing these business modelling concepts in her efforts to revolutionise the way that International Service embraces and embeds innovation across every level of our work.

In her article for BOND, Jo talks candidly about the effort and commitment that were required to move International Service to the next level.

'Taking all this back to share in our organisation, and turning it into something accessible, relevant and meaningful took time. But through a series of away days and workshops with the Management Team, all our staff teams across the world and our Board of Trustees, lots of ideas began to take shape.'

Innovation can take the form of big projects or small process tweaks, and both can have a significant impact on an organisation. But as Jo discovered, innovation isn’t always easy.

'There were challenges along the way [...] being honest is scary!'

But despite the challenges, it's amazing to see how far we've come in just one year, and Jo’s vision continues to take the organisation to new heights. We’re already working on new projects and ideas, developing strong partnerships that will challenge inequality and inspire change – so watch this space!
